Samsung SC-X210L Hands Free Helmet Camera Camcorder
Ok. Ding, ding, ding. "SCX-210L" vs. "Cheap Security Camera from Asia Laden With Wires and Batteries" - Round 2 begins! The 1st Round , the SCX-105L, had some issues from my perspective. I'm somewhat optimistic on round 2 as some have been qouted saying the SCX-205L "has been completely overhauled." I have not had the oppurtunity to touch the SC-X210L or see the video quality output of the new SC-X205L unit. The details floating around elude to some good fixes. It appears the external helmet cam, now draws power from the SC-X210L - this is good. Also, a supposed %25 improvment in video quality - not sure if that's enough! I hope they fixed the easy stuff like staying in external camera mode, controlling power up of the external camera from the SC-X205L, pulling a standard NTSC image from the external camera, and other simple usability items! Also, a switch from MemStick to SD - cool. There's also a rumour of a version with a wireless external camera - interesting! Hey Samsung, how about a pre-release version for a review? I promise to be honest! -chad

I’ve noticed that these are starting to appear in online stores in the U.S. I’m waiting to get my hands on one here in the UK. Does anyome have any idea when it will appear here?
Primarily I’m looking for something to attach to record motorcycle track days with. From what I’ve read the cable from the external camera to the main unit is 9 feet long (can anyone confirm this?) so that should allow me to store the main unit under the rear seat and attach the camera to the front of the bike with the cable running under the seat and then inside the fairings. Does anyone have any suggestions for mounting? I’m thinking that locating the camera behind the small windscreen will be the best bet as it will protect it from stones etc. but a mounting point lower down (nearer the track) might yield more exciting footage.
I’m also wondering about ways of hooking the power inlet up to the 12V battery on the bike. I guess I’ll need to somehow convert to 5,6 or 9V (whatever the unit expects). Sessions at the track are typically 15-20mins plus a bit either side so the camera’s battery alone wouldn’t do a whole day’s worth of sessions (usually 7).
The camera will also get used to record snowboarding and motorcycle touring trips.

Has anyone had the chance to review this yet? I’ve seen the reviews on that “other” website but I have not seen any reviews for this camera’s intent which is for sports and not for professional films.

i got mine shipped over from the us to the uk a few months ago. Quality is the only gripe- but the ability to video everything easily outweighs this. what are you looking at using it for? i use mine on a motorbike and its excellent for that. the ability to turn it on and off by the remote to record long journeys is brilliant! when using it like this the screen is switched off so battery life is pretty good too. i just wish i could get a 12v charger and a spare battery!

I’d like to use it for track days on my motorcycle… how did you end up mounting the camera? Also was vibration a factor? Wind noise?
